What are two of life's biggest stress triggers?

  • Ruminating about the past
  • Trying to control the future

Replaying past mistakes keeps us mired in guilt and prevents us from moving forward. Worrying about the future keeps our nervous system on high alert, draining our mental and physical energies.

So how do we anchor ourselves into the present moment? One way is to use your senses. Try this... look around you and notice anything that's blue. Do you notice different shades of blue? What's nearby? Faraway? For these few moments, your attention has been right here, right now in the present. The more you can remain present, the less your mind will boomerang to past & future.

Another way to be present is to anchor in the body. Yoga is a wonderful vehicle for presence. This week's Take 5 Yoga video not only affords you the opportunity to lengthen your tight hip flexors, it provides 5 minutes of mindful presence. Practice with me as you allow yourself to be here now...
