Let's Create a Poem!
Rosemary Donnelly | APR 22, 2023

April is National Poetry month, and in honor of all our inner poets, this week I’m sharing a format called “Book Spine Poetry.” The concept is simple. According to the Evansville Public Library’s website:
“Book spine poetry is a type of “found” poetry, as it uses pre-written words to create a poem. Most don't rhyme or fit a particular poetic structure. It's just a stack of books, artfully arranged, where each title is a line in the poem. These poems can be any length or style, or evoke any emotion.”
Here are 2 examples I found online: (find more by clicking here)

Although most people publish photos of their Book Spine Poetry, I’m a Kindle gal, so I don’t have many physical books for photos. But I decided to give Book Spine Poetry a try anyway. Here’s what my library inspired:
Journey to the Heart: A Book Spine Poem by Rosemary
Journey to the heart
Upstream
The direction of the wind.
Ecstasy is necessary
A deep breath of life
Outrageous openness
A fierce heart.
The power is within you
Untamed.
The universe has your back.
Jump and your life will appear.
Fun, right? If you have a few moments, why not give it a try? Then, if you’re feeling adventurous, send me your poem (photo or text) and I’ll post it in a special Book Spine Poetry newsletter in the near future.
On another note, I've been spending lots of time in my kitchen lately, courtesy of my love affair with my new air fryer. (more on that in a future newsletter) Seems like the perfect occasion to share my final installment of Kitchen Counter Yoga.

Today's episode is Twist & Stretch, and in less than 5 minutes, you can open your hips, do a few spine-releasing twists, AND strengthen your balance!
Ready for more? Join a fun-loving, vibrant group of yogis every Wednesday morning for Midlife Yoga. Check the calendar and register here. No kitchen counter required!
Until next time,
~ Rosemary
