The Most Important Thing
Rosemary Donnelly | JUL 30, 2022

These few words are from poet Julia Fehrenbacher. (You can read "The Most Important Thing" in its entirety here.) How I love this idea of making a home inside myself. Perhaps it's because as a woman, I often struggle to create that "shelter of kindness" for myself. Do you?
We love and nurture others, encourage and support everyone around us, and yet...
Do you show the same grace and kindness to yourself that you do to others? I will admit that I struggle mightily with self-compassion. I hold myself to such a high standard, speak to myself with an often-critical voice. This poem spoke to the deepest part of me, a reminder to treat myself as I would those I love the most. Dear friend, may you make a home inside yourself, a shelter of kindness that grows all the truest things.
If, like me, you need occasional (or frequent!) reminders to practice self-compassion, I share with you a guided meditation I created last year.

Even if you've never meditated, all you need do is sit, relax and listen. I hope it brings you peace...
