3 Things You'll Never See in a Midlife Yoga Class *BONUS VIDEO*

Imagine this nightmarish scenario: you're standing in a yoga studio, surrounded by people who are half your age and twice as flexible. The instructor starts to guide you through a sun salutation, a sequence of 12 poses, and each one is more difficult than the last.

First, you stand with your feet together and your arms at your sides. Then, you bend forward at the waist, trying to touch your toes. (Count me out right here!)

Now, it's time to move to the floor. Lower your body down into a plank position, with your forearms on your mat and your body hovering off the floor in a straight line from your head to your heels.

For the crowning glory, move into Upward-Facing Dog. To practice this pose, lie on your stomach with your palms flat on the floor next to your chest. Then, push yourself up off the floor, keeping your arms straight, and arch your back.

How does that sound?

If you're over 60, have limited flexibility, or are recovering from an injury, you might be thinking, "That sounds impossible!" Scenarios like this are exactly what keep many older adults from trying a yoga class.

I understand. For most of us, traditional Sun Salutations are way too challenging. But don't worry! There’s a way to enjoy all the benefits of Sun Salutations without the crazy contortions.

Seated Sun Salutations are a modified version of the traditional sequence that can be practiced from a chair. This makes them a great option for people of all ages and abilities.

For example, instead of doing a standing forward bend, (sending you to the nearest chiropractor!) you can simply bend forward, supporting your weight on your forearms and knees. No need to touch your toes!

If you're interested in trying this sequence, I invite you to watch my latest Take 5 Yoga Youtube video, "Seated Sun Salutations." In this video, I will guide you through the entire sequence, step-by-step.

Seated Sun Salutations are a great way to improve your flexibility, strength, and cardiovascular health (without having to twist yourself into a pretzel!)

Remember... when you move better, you feel better.

Until next time,
