Unfold Like Summer: Celebrating Summer Solstice and International Yoga Day
Rosemary Donnelly | JUN 21, 2024

June 21st isn't just the first full day of summer, it's also a day of global celebration – International Yoga Day! The summer solstice, with its extended daylight hours, marks a shift in nature. Just as the plants stretch towards the sun, this day invites us to consider our own growth and transformation. Is there an area of your life where you'd like to "bloom" a little more this summer?
Spiritually, summer is the season of the year where we are most connected to our bodies and the natural world. We are receiving the heat and nourishment of the sun, & there is an abundance of food, energy, and light.
On this International Yoga Day, consider this: the beauty of yoga is that it's a practice for everyone, regardless of age or ability. Millions around the world, from young athletes to adult beginners just like you, find that yoga nourishes both body and mind.

Care to join the celebration? Check out the video below that I've just added to my YouTube library. This Take 5 Yoga video is aptly named "Forward Fold & Reach." My gentle sequence focuses on forward folds, & I offer lots of options to keep the practice beginner-friendly & safe for those with lower back or bone density issues. The upside? Forward folds can help to improve circulation, lengthen the spine, and create a sense of calm – perfect for a warm summer day!
Wishing you a joyful and healthy summer filled with sunshine and possibility! And if you're looking to begin your practice in a supportive environment, consider joining my Midlife Yoga class. It's a wonderful way to connect with your body, mind, and spirit, and spend time with other gentle yogis just like you.
Remember... when you move better, you feel better!
Until next time,
~ Rosemary
